Minutes

  • Call to Order & reading of the Land acknowledgement- The meeting was called to order at: 1:03 pm
  • Roll Call- Erik Dickson, Nataly Hernandez, Celine Rubalcava, Mariah Atkins, Maia Madrigal, Victoria Lopez, Taylor Rozek, Yasmin Esquivel, Salvador Ochoa, Taneesha Porter were present.
  • Public Comment – pursuant to California Education Code 89306, the AS Senate provides this time for any member of the public to address the AS Senate on any item affecting higher education. Pursuant to California Education Code 89306(b), each speaker will be allowed no more than three (3) minutes to address the AS Senate.
  •  Liaison Report to the Senate (Discussion)
    • Academic Senate Designee- no report
    • University President’s Designee - Report: SP24 plans finalized, hiring outside physicians to assist for health center, DSS administering over 100 finals, double the amount from last year, enrollment numbers: 165 students since Nov 30, need more 188 students to hit the goal of 95%(currently at 91.44% percent registered in total for students, teacher telling students to register for the next semester, Spring 2023, to keep the retention rate smoothly)
  • Business
    • AS-CR 015.22.23 Approve the AS pay increase proposal in response to the CSU recent pay increases as recommended by the AS Personnel Committee.
      • Discussion- AS President discussed: The proposal was brought into the last Senate Meeting as discussion and is now an action item to vote on. The staff has asked about the 3500 recognition payment and make sure it is clarified.
        • President Esquivel was asking if anyone have any questions of any details on the proposal
        • Executive Director Dickson was thinking of matching the University’s way of picking the month on when the staff members will take the month off, so AS wants to do the same 6 weeks in advance to see where the vacancies will be for the Prostaff members. However, we need an alternative proposal for Administrative staff.
      • Action- Executive Vice President Hernandez moved to approve the AS pay increase proposal in response to CSU recent pay increases as recommended by the AS Personnel Committee. Vice President of Finance Rozek seconded the motion. Motion passes
      • Senator Ochoa moved to amend the motion to change the date from June 1st to July 1st. Vice President of Finance Rozek seconded the motion. Motion passes
    • AS-CR 017.22.23 Delegation of Authority to the AS Interim Executive Board for the power to approve changes to the AS Personnel Policies as it relates to 11/12 pay cycles for employees. (ACTION)
      • Discussion- President Esquivel discussed how the Delegation is connected to the 1st business item, with the 11/12 work cycle with the policy, so that everyone is aware of it before the Spring Semester starts.
      • Action- Senator Rubalcava motioned the Delegation of Authority to AS Interim Executive Board for the power to approve changes to the AS Personnel Policies as it relates to 11/12 pay cycles for employees. Senator Ochoa seconded the motion. Motion passes unanimously.
    • AS-BI 018.22.23 Swearing in of Clayton Trent as the 2022/23 AS VP of Finance effective Dec. 17th, 2022 (Discussion)
      • Discussion- Clayton Trent was swore in as the 2022/2023 AS VP of Finance effective Dec 17th, 2022
    • AS-BI 019.22.23 Swearing in of Dirk Tolson as the 2022/23 AS Senator of Government Affairs effective Dec. 17th, 2022 (Discussion)
      •  Discussion- Dirk Tolson was swore in as the 2022/23 AS Senator of Government Affairs
    • AS-BI 018.22.23 Swearing in of Vanessa Sanchez as the 2022/23 AS Senator of Diversity effective Dec. 17th, 2022 (Discussion)
      • Discussion- Vanessa Sanchez was swore in as the 2022/23 AS Senator of Diversity
    • Reports (Discussion)
      • AS President- Everyone thank you for being patient with me and thank you for being an awesome team this semester.
      • Executive Vice President- discussed in Academic Senate, a form for faculty retreat where students think of topics that the retreat should talk and discuss about;
      • Vice President of Finance- discussed as Clayton Trent will be making the budget, head count: 91%, increasing of staff, and inflation, so a bit tight on cash, budget request no later than January 23, 2022;
      • Senator of Diversity- discussed Open Forum, student attended, topics to talk: cultural diversity training, students afraid to discuss or write what the faculty needs to change bc of backlash, making a survey and experience at SSU; fires on different areas of the campus
      • Senator of Student Resources- discussed ITEG department: process of Equitable Access Program(dashboard), IT Project Dashboard(projects approved and project requests); Outreach hours completed
      • JUMP Representative- wrapping up the semester
      • Basic Needs Representative- pop up donation at ribbon cutting ceremony at Stevenson Hall; collab with Reach for student donations, idea of donation pantry where students would drop off the food and get the donation, so Spread the Word(non perishable food, hygiene products), receiving produce from Farm to Pantry; Alumni Association raised 6k for the student(LOBO’s) pantry;
      • ASP Representative- 5 previous events; Mark the Date(Part II from beginning of semester), 10 students stopped, Bowling Night(250 students), MarioKart(35), Destress with Green(60 stopped by), Gingerbread Bash(15$, 400 students), Money Spent approximately 3k, ASP working over the Winter Break.
      • Children's School Representative- Report: completed Assessment, CLASS connected with grants and contracts(Student outcome), major renovations , Nelson sat on the webinar, University are not eligible for any grants, ideas of a new Children’s School, community partners to for the grant of renovation, enrollment of Children’s School(12-18 months/Rosebud class), working with MArketing to market for students to get the word; space for faculty and staff; keeping the balance for students and staff, renovations and repairs needed to be made.Preschool Monitor in February; School is wrapping up and open for January 3rd, 2023
      • Executive Director- End of Year and Instruction;
  • Items for the Good of the Order- AS FOr Funzies(5-7pm), Semester is ending; New Staff is Coming In; AS/SI FInals Breakfast 9-11 am on Monday; Pantry taking Bag Orders(10 items)/ Pickup and Delivery on Fridays, People can volunteer;
  • Adjournment- The meeting was adjourned at: 1:56 pm
