AS Strategic Plan 2025

Introduction

The Associated Students of Sonoma State (AS) is an auxiliary corporation  governed and run by students working to enhance the lives of Sonoma State students  and build a sense of community on campus. This is achieved by providing a wide range of programs and services for members of the organization. Because of the student led nature of the AS, there is consistent changing of leadership. This creates some difficulty in ensu ing a consistent direction for the allocation of resources, creation of new programs and implementation of ideas that students have. This plan is meant to  be a guiding document and provide context for resource allocation and provide a  consistent direction upon which future policies can be implemented and initiatives undertaken. Currently the AS does not have an up-to-date strategic plan to guide the  decisions and direction of the organ zation as the previous plan expired in 2018. The  Corporate Affairs Board of the AS is charged to ensure that the AS has an updated  strategic planning document. A group was formed in September of 2019 consisting of 2 students from Join Us Making Progress and Associated Students Productions, 3 students from Student Government, one staff member from the Children's school, the Executive Director, and the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Laura Monje-Paulson. Members of the strategic planning committee also reporte back to their steering work groups to get feedback on the thoughts and ideas that were developed. This document speaks to the core identity of our organization and the students who work here. The group started the strategic planning process by reviewing other Strategic plans of Associated Students within the CSU. The group then reviewed and revised the mission statement, established a new vision statement, determined the AS values, executed a SWOT analysis, and developed long-range goals for the Associated Students. The group determined that the mission statement of the AS needed to be rewritten to be more readable and concise so that members  could easily understand the mission of the AS. The vision statement is intended to be a  target that employees can strive to meet and aligns with the underlying philosophy of our organization. The values of the organization are set out to be the ideals and desirable qualities that the organization seeks to emulate in itself and to promote amongst the larger campus community. The goals of the plan represent a series of  wide-reaching goals that serve as the organization’s tool to form specific annual  initiatives and long-term reach. They also offer the ability to be flexible enough to allow individual direction by each year’s leadership.
