Authority — These codes are established under the power and authority of the Associated Students (AS) Bylaws and the AS Senate.
The board shall have the authority to meet and conduct business as delegated specifically by the Senate, or through this code, while the AS Senate is not in session.
Purpose of the Personnel Board is to serve the Senate by conducting the delegated responsibility from the AS Senate for the administration and development of personnel policies and procedures pertaining to hiring, evaluation, promotion, reclassification, salary adjustments, terminations, disciplinary actions, benefits, and employee rights and privileges. The Board will ensure all AS personnel policy and procedure is in compliance with existing state and federal law, regulations of the Trustees of the California State University, and the policies of Sonoma State University.
Article II — Membership & Process of the Board
Membership of the Personnel Board shall consist of three voting members of the AS Senate, one of which will be the AS President (who shall serve as chair.)
Advisor(s) — The AS Executive Director and the SSU AVP for Human Services shall serve as non-voting advisors to the Board.
Meetings — The board shall meet no less than once each month the Senate is in session.

Quorum for the Personnel Board shall be 2/3 of the eligible voting members of the board.
Article III — Personnel Board Duties & Responsibilities
General Responsibilities of the Personnel Board are to review and approve personnel policies and procedures for those areas detailed in Article I,2 of this code.
Policy and Procedure —The board shall monitor and improve the effectiveness of the personnel policies and procedures of the corporation and forward all recommendations for amendments to the AS Senate for approval.
Position Descriptions—The board shall review all new and revised position descriptions for professional staff of the corporation.
Organizational Structure— The board shall recommend changes in staff organizational structure, reporting relationships, reclassifications, and/or promotion to the AS Senate for approval.
Increases— The board shall review all requests from the AS Executive Director for temporary step increases, merit or step increases, equity adjustments, or temporary or permanent in-range progressions.
Hiring of Professional Staff—The board shall advise the AS Executive Director on the selection and hiring process for professional staff of the corporation.
Hiring of the Executive Director— The board shall advise the AS President on the selection and hiring process for the AS Executive Director.
Hourly Employee(s) — The board shall advise the Executive Director on changes to the hourly employee staffing model and the hourly employee wage matrix.
Officer Awards — The board shall make recommendations to the AS Senate with regards to alterations to the awards granted to AS officers upon request of any member of the AS Senate or the AS Finance & Strategic Planning Board.
